Abstract : Trump has once again won the U.S. presidential election, bringing China-U.S. relations to a new crossroads. To analyze and forecast the overarching trends in China-U.S. relations, the Institute for China-America Studies (ICAS) held its 2024 Annual Conference and 10th Anniversary Celebration in Washington on December 12, with in-depth discussions on the characteristics of the “Trump 2.0 era.” Hundreds of attendees participated. On December 13, representatives from the Chinese and U.S. governments exchanged documents in Beijing to sign the Protocol on Amending and Extending the Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation Between the Two Governments, extending the agreement for five years starting from August 27, 2024. Over the past four years, under the joint efforts of the leaders and teams from both countries, China-U.S. relations have generally remained stable. However, many debates, differences, and challenges persist. The two countries should engage in pragmatic and constructive discussions based on facts, exploring appropriate pathways for interaction through Track II diplomacy or academic exchanges.
